SOCIAL WELFARE ACTIVITIES

Conscious of its commitments to the society and community development, NLC has been extending necessary assistance in this regard and it has proved to be a beacon of hope for all those deserving through its gamut of social welfare activities. NLC is providing infrastructure facilities in addition to giving grant in aid for running Sneha Opportunity School - a day care center for the mentally retarded children run by the Sneha Opportunity Services, an institution under the patronage of NLC. As a part of social responsibility of business and commitment to the neighboring community,

NLC is discharging its duty by implementing various welfare activities for the needy village population surrounding Neyveli Complex. Basic amenities like provision of potable drinking water, connecting roads, basic educational facilities and health care were provided to the needy villages in a planned manner under the Peripheral Development Programme. Employment opportunities generated for the youths and vocational training are the other milestones towards fulfilling its community welfare obligations.

HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT

Having in mind trained human resource as the main asset, NLC has considered training and development as a priority in its agenda. Training and re-training, development of skills, application of these skills in job situation are considered by the Company as the most important methods of training personnel. In-house and out station training programs are being provided. Global training experiences to some of the executives were also provided in the latest technological developments. In “Quality Circles Movement”, NLC’s contribution is noteworthy and efforts are taken to increase the awareness and participation. NLC earned many awards and obtained recognition in the National Convention of Quality circles.

INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS

NLC continues to maintain cordial industrial relations by resolving issues by bipartite negotiations and settlements with Joint Council of Unions and Association of Officers and Engineers. This has helped to create manual trust and confidence among the employees. The various forums of participation like Works Committee, Canteen Management Committee, Unit Councils and Shop Councils and Quality Circles have further fostered the participation culture.
